I rarely use the blog to advocate anything...but this is something I feel strongly about! For those who don't know...ERF stands for Extended Rear Facing. We all know that the law is 1yo and 20lbs! But, that is seriously...the minimum! Most car seats safely hold a child rear facing till they are atleast 35lbs and more and more car seat makers are catching on to the idea and have up'd the anti to 40lbs. This is not a debate...if you don't want to use this info...don't! It's your right as a parent. We didn't ERF with Kailee or Ryan, the information just wasn't out there...[and clearly they turned out fine] But, now that I know, what I know...lol...I would be a fool to not use it! It is also being recommended by the AAP [American Academy of Pediatrics] it's worth it to take a second and read...Click HERE for the article!
Just a quick little video...
In addition to ERF we are practicing extended harnessing w/Ryan. His car seat harnesses to 65lbs, but again...companies are catching on and Britax & Sunshine kids have come out with car seats that harness to 80lbs! If EH isn't for you...that's fine...but, please keep your kids in a 5-pt harness till they are atleast 4yo & 40lbs! For more info, click here & watch the video about Kyle Miller! No one ever plans to get in a car accident...so why not have the proper seat, correctly installed!? It's just one less thing to worry about!
That's a great video... really informative. I'm thinking I will probably ERF with Jonah
